" Jonkonnu is a vibrant and colorful street performance that is popular in the Caribbean and the Americas during the Christmas Holiday season. These performances consist of dancers and musicians dressed in brightly coloured and sometimes elaborate costumes and masks portraying several characters. These characters range from the mythical and superstitious, to those that represent the impact of colonization and of those who hold great power in our society today.

Tell! Jonkonnu, Tell! gives the personal stories of each character found in the parade, through the eyes of the composer. He delves into their personalities, their desires, joys and frustrations, and their groupings inform the way we interact with the work. Some of their stories give insight on how their involvement in real life events help immortalize their place in this parade lineup; collectively soliciting social commentary, humour, intrigue, empathy and hope."

He melds the colourful nuances of Jamaican music and heritage like the fabrics of Pitchy Patchy, and presents homage to the iconic Jamaican Pantomime in the apparition of Koo Koo Actor Boy.

The performance will follow with a tour on the following dates:

Feb 5 Wigmore Hall (London)

Feb 6 Muziekgebouw (Amsterdam)

Feb 8 Krozo Theatre (The Hague)

Feb 12 De Doelen (Rotterdam)
