New Commission for the Departure Duo
I am THRILLED to announce that I have a been commissioned by one of the finest high/low duos in the United States for their 2019-2020 season!!
See https://www.departureduo.com for more information.
The Departure Duo has granted me a tremendous opportunity to create a new work which I've entitled "Evil's Peak": a 4-movement song cycle for soprano and double bass.
The piece takes inspiration from a 13th century frieze that graced the walls of the St. Mary's Church in Lübeck, Germany in 1463; The Dance of Death in which 24 figures symbolizing people from all walks of life (from the Pope to the baby) are led into a dance by emaciated corpses draped in a shroud and playing the flute; a pronouncement that death is no respecter of persons and this is the one dance we all must dance.
This narrative is now filtered through the Jamaican prism; in full Patios with Jamaican characters.
There will be three dates to hear this work:
October 17, 2019 @ Scholes Street Studio, Williamsburg, NYC, 8pm
October 19, 2019 @ Make Shift, Boston, 8pm
October 20, 2019 @ Spectrumnyc, NYC, 3pm
I am so grateful to receive this opportunity and cannot WAIT to work with the Departure Duo on the new piece!!
