Rose of Sharon for unaccompanied Mixed Choir SATB w/divisi. (2015)

Written for The Cantus Ensemble to be a part of their 2015 inaugural Cantus Ensemble Choral Composition Competition. The work was premiered on July 11, 2015 at the St. Gabriel's Church, Pimlico London, in their summer concert series "Butterfly Dreams."

I refer to it as a ‘choral tone poem’ which afforded me the opportunity to approach choral writing from a quasi symphonic context in musical language, contrasting textures and using the chorus as an orchestral accompaniment for itself.

Simultaneously, the work is portraying love as a varied and complex structure from three perspectives in the spirit of a three-act micro-opera or three chapter storybook. The text is from Song of Solomon 2: 1-8 and 10-14, a mixture of the King James and the New International Versions.
